Husky Rescue South Africa, also known as Husky Haven, is a non-profit organization that specializes in the rescue and re-homing of huskies and other Nordic breeds of dogs.

Common mistakes people make

Families see movies like Balto, Eight Below, snog dogs and snow buddies and fall in love with their beautiful soft coats, eyes, loyalty and intelligence.  It is true, they are beautiful, their coats are like a teddy bear and their eyes can drown your heart, but that should not be the reason you decide to have a Siberian or Malamute Husky.

Research, learn and decide before adopting a husky

People must take in consideration that when adopting or buying a Siberian or Malamute husky puppy or adult dog research must be done before making the decision.  It’s the right first step to take when considering getting any kind of pet.  Like any dog, the husky breed has a history which should not be taken lightly.  In short, they need space, exercise and lots of attention, care and love.

They are not watch dogs, and if that’s your aim, do not get a husky.  They truly are amazing dogs and companions, but with that comes more responsibility.  Two of the highest points of having a Siberian or Malamute Husky, they need to be micro-chipped which are not as expensive as most people believe.  And they must at least go through puppy class in order for them to understand and learn to interact and socialize in dog walks.

You can help and interact

At Husky Haven you can volunteer to help take care of the abandoned or sometimes abused huskies by visiting and giving them attention, love and care.  There are often dog walks advertised on their website you can join, you don’t necessary need a dog, you can walk and exercise some of the rescue huskies.  Even the interaction between other owners and their dogs can give you a good idea of what lies ahead of having such an amazing breed among your family.

For the past six months the course “Writing for the web” has been a journey I embarked with pride.

Writing for the web at the SA Writers College

Writing for the web would be one of the three courses I’ve done through the SA Writers College.  The Writing for the web course is a great starting point because so much of the writing opportunities are online.  It would be a great course to have under your belt.

The writing courses at the college are great for any writer who wants to grow and be serious about having a writing career in anyway.  With each course I believe I grew as a writer more each time.  In a way I believe I’m addicted to the courses and the manner the college handles each course.

The Writing for the web tutor Karen Lotter

The smooth manner my tutor Karen Lotter handled each of my module markings have taught me a great deal and encourage me to do better the next time.  She made me believe that I could go far, and as a writer believing in yourself is a huge turning point in one’s writing career.

Inspiration for all writers

The Writing for the web course at the SA Writers College is a great inspiration for all writers who take this journey on.  Confidence with each article you write for the web.  Will power to update your website or blog on a regular basis as you now know and believe more people will find what you’ve written.  Great sources of places you can write articles or even web fiction for.

I’m very happy and proud I’ve taken the step to complete this stunning course, with an amazing tutor at a great Writing college.  I fully recommend this to all writers of all ages.

Apart from talent, hard word and experience, writing comes with better word practices unless you’ve swallowed a dictionary.

Slang can be mistaken for the right words

There are slang words in the English language that many people could mistake for English words.  Or it’s simply improper word practises for stories. Two of these words, from what I’ve heard, are the words “Get” and “Got”.  Research and the Thesaurus are the best tools to find the right words if one is not sure.

Other words to be used

Words to use instead of “Get” or rather the words that people should use instead of using “get”. “Got” is the past tense for “Get”

• Acquire
• Buy
• Collect
• Pick up
• Bring
• Catch
• Become
• Seize
• Reach
• Grab
• Communicate

Depending on the sentence you need it for, and there are more words from the Thesaurus.

Other resources online

There are many online resources and programs one can use or buy.  One of these programs is called White Smoke.  I’ve been using it for my novels and it surely helps.  One buys it once and you can use the program for life.  I’m still using the 2007 version of the program and it’s still great.

From templates, word enrichments, grammar and sentence structures, this is surely a good place to start for new writers.

The only downside of this program is that one need to be connected to the internet, as the program connects to a server where all the words and rules are stored which the program uses.

Time to write down and make a list of all the tips and guidelines that could make your writing life a better one.

Finding the best and affordable option for internet or broadband that suits your finances.

All companies in the same line of work are at competition with each other. And there is no shame in choosing the best option that suits your finances. I know that with most people Internet is just a luxury, but wouldn’t it be great if you know there is a way you can afford it?

ADSL Internet:

Let’s see what you need for ADSL internet

• Telkom landline (which unfortunately included line rental, however you pay this weather you have internet or not)
• Modem (any ADSL modem or router)
• ADSL Enabled on that line
• ISP (Internet Service Provider) – internet Bandwidth.

Most of the time the ISP’s are expensive, but most probably because of all the competition out there between the companies, some have cheaper options.

With most ISP’s you pay an X amount for a few GIG’s of Bandwidth and no matter how much you use or don’t use you pay that fee every month.  Now the best budget option I can suggest is “lite” options or even Pay as you Go.  Just like a Cell phone you can use the internet with a Pay as you Go option.  Buy 1 GIG of bandwidth and see how far you can get out with it.

Now let’s see how much the cheapest ADSL internet will cost you!

ADSL enabled on your Telkom line:     R152 (for the 384kbps)

ISP – Pay as you Go: R29 (for 1 GIG)

Total: R181

OR

ISP – “Lite” account: R19 (for 1 GIG)

Total: R171

And that fee is not every month, which all depends on how long that 1 GIG of bandwidth lasts and or you can top up whenever you can.

Wireless Internet:

Let’s see what you need for Wireless internet

•  Modem (a wireless modem from any Wireless ISP)
• Good signal (this will depends in which area you live in)
• ISP (Internet Service Provider) – internet Bandwidth.

Wireless may even be cheaper than ADSL in certain ways.  With wireless you don’t need a telephone line, so there’s no line rental, or ADSL fees.  Wireless is basically only ISP fee’s you need to pay.

Now let’s see how much the cheapest Wireless internet will cost you!

• Activation Fee: R99 (payable only once)
• ISP: R149 per GIG (if you want the option where you get a modem) or R49 if you have bought your own modem.
• Total: R248 (for the first month) R149 (from the second month onwards)

The prices above are for month to month internet (which means you have bought a modem and don’t need to sign a 24 month contract.) This fee is payable every month.

I will not recommend Pay as you Go on Wireless. It is more expensive than an every month fee, simply because you pay per MB and not per GB.

3G Internet:

Unfortunately, there is no cheaper option for 3G. This is by far – as far as I know – the most expensive internet option one can have.  If you have 3G and are looking for cheaper bandwidth, then I might suggest you try out other internet options, it might save you money in the long run.
